Siemer Milling Company is a family- and employee-owned company. We strive to achieve a high level of competence and customer satisfaction, while cultivating an atmosphere of Respect, Trust, and Responsibility among employees, customers, and suppliers. We are engaged in the creation of grain based foods that are wholesome, nutritious, and satisfy consumer needs.
Siemer Milling Company's primary product is wheat flour milled to different specifications for the making of such foods as cookies, crackers, cakes, pretzels, batters and breadings, bread and biscuits. We have close, long-term relationships with some of the largest and most trusted names in consumer packaged foods and food service.
The company began in Teutopolis, Illinois well over 125 years ago, on Nov ember 6, 1882, when the company opened for business as "Hope Mills, Uptmor & Siemer, Proprietors". In 1906, Joseph Siemer and his son, Clemens J., bought out the Uptmor interests and changed the name to Siemer Milling Company.
The business endured through good times and bad for decades. Under the leadership of Quintin A. Siemer, son of Clem J., the company became recommitted to flour milling in the late 1950s as new opportunities presented themselves. By 1979, demand justified the opening of a much larger new mill at Teutopolis, Illinois.
Richard C. Siemer, son of Quintin, became the fourth generation of Siemers to lead the company in 1986. Today our milling operations: employ about 135 people; use 15 million bushels of locally grown wheat annually, with a current market value in excess of $100 million; and produce 185,000 tons of processed wheat products - flour, bran, and wheat germ - in a year. We operate flour mills in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, as well as in Teutopolis
Siemer Milling Company engages in innovative flour-based businesses. One of these is heat-treated flour, products that have functional and economic advantages for certain applications. The products are made in a unique processing system in Teutopolis. Another venture is in extenders, or flours used as part of the adhesive system in manufacturing plywood. The facility for these products is located in Hopkinsville.
One of our most dramatic changes took place in 2000, when an Employee Stock Ownership Plan was established. A significant percentage of company stock is now held in a trust with all eligible employees as beneficiaries, so that company success will be translated into greater financial security for the participants.
Our organization has realized success to date because of the commitment of many fine people and their sincere desire to do a good job and deliver a worthwhile product. As we grow, we will always emphasize attentiveness to the legitimate needs of our employees, our customers, and the communities of which we are a part.
