Siemer Milling Company is a family- and employee-owned company. We strive to achieve a high level of competence and customer satisfaction, while cultivating an atmosphere of Respect, Trust, and Responsibility among employees, customers, and suppliers. We are engaged in the creation of grain based foods that are wholesome, nutritious, and satisfy consumer needs.
Siemer Milling Company's primary product is wheat flour milled to different specifications for the making of such foods as cookies, crackers, cakes, pretzels, batters and breadings, bread and biscuits. We have close, long-term relationships with some of the largest and most trusted names in consumer packaged foods and food service.
The company began in Teutopolis, Illinois well over a century ago, on Nov ember 6, 1882, when the company opened for business as "Hope Mills, Uptmor & Siemer, Proprietors". In 1906, Joseph Siemer and his son, Clemens J., bought out the Uptmor interests and changed the name to Siemer Milling Company.
The business endured through good times and bad for decades. It engaged in various agriculture-related ventures, but became recommitted to flour milling in the late 1950's as new opportunities presented themselves. By 1979, demand justified the opening of a much larger new mill at Teutopolis, a mill that has since been almost doubled in capacity. We built a second flour mill in Hopkinsville, Kentucky in 1995. This plant, too, has grown, expanding 40% since it opened. It is now slightly larger than the mill in Teutopolis.
Recently we leased the facilities of another, smaller mill in Hopkinsville. As a result, we increased our total company flour milling capacity by 10%, we added small-packaging capabilities (for sizes from one to 50 pounds), and we entered the dry corn milling business for the first time.
Siemer Milling Company has also embarked on innovative ventures related to flour. One of these is a process for heat-treating flour, which results in products that have functional and economic advantages for certain applications. Another venture is in extenders, or flours used as part of the adhesive system in manufacturing plywood. We have great expectations for both of these new businesses.
One of our most dramatic changes took place in 2000, when an Employee Stock Ownership Plan was established. A significant percentage of company stock is now held in a trust with all eligible employees as beneficiaries, so that company success will be translated into greater financial security for the participants.
Our organization has realized success to date because of the commitment of many fine people and their sincere desire to do a good job and deliver a worthwhile product. We intend to continue to build the business, both in size and knowledge. As we grow, however, we will always emphasize attentiveness to the legitimate needs of our employees, our customers, and the communities of which we are a part. We won’t achieve all we’re capable of unless we do it together.
