Siemer Milling Company celebrates a milestone as Rick Siemer marks 50-years with the company in August, including 39 years of leadership as President. Rick’s five-decade journey represents an impressive story of dedication in American agriculture.
In this half-century span, Rick has guided the company from a small regional operation to a strong industry presence, with standards for quality, innovation, and customer service that drive growth and financial success.
During Rick’s tenure, Siemer Milling has achieved:
● Mill growth and innovations, including new mills in Teutopolis, IL Hopkinsville, KY and West Harrison, IN, and a total 9x increase in production capacity
● Establishment of an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) program, giving employees a direct stake in the company
● Creation of a successful, unique business unit selling wheat products that are functionally enhanced by means of heat treatment
● Continual adoption of cutting-edge milling technologies and quality control systems
● Development of strategic partnerships that strengthened the company’s market position
● Cultivation of a workplace culture of Respect, Trust, and Responsibility that attracts and retains capable and motivated people
● Uncompromising emphasis on productive, fulfilling relationships with customers, employees, vendors, and other stakeholders.
Rick observes, “Many good people have worked hard to get us where we are today. I’m grateful for the chance to be part of that team, to help everybody pull together. I consider myself a steward of our 143-year-old legacy, and a ‘servant-leader’ to ensure our people get what they need to succeed. God willing, there’s a lot more Siemer Milling will achieve in the future.”
Rick’s influence extends beyond company walls, as he has been active in advancing industry standards and fostering innovation throughout the milling sector. His business philosophy, centered on integrity, quality, and long-term relationships, has earned respect from customers, competitors, and industry professionals.
Rick’s efforts have extended beyond business. He has provided leadership in diverse areas, including Southeastern Illinois Community Foundation, Lincoln Trails Boy Scout Council, Teutopolis School Board, St. Francis Parish Council – and the church choir. Rick and Diane have three children, Martha Stice, Katie Summers, and Henry Siemer. All three, and spouses Kenneth Stice and Aaron Summers, are engaged with the company as directors and/or managers. Henry recently stepped into the presidential role to help carry the company into the future.
“From my father, I’ve learned that true leadership rests on four essential pillars of support. First, our employees—the skilled, hardworking individuals who take ownership of their work and drive our success. Second, our community, whom we serve with the same dedication as our customers. Third, our family, the future generations for whom we strive to leave a better world. And fourth, faith, which brings profound fulfillment and guides our path” stated Henry Siemer.
